Why Conservatives Trying To Take Bill Maher Off The Air Are Wrong

This time he insulted Jesus, Tim Tebow and Christianity. Last 
time around he called Sarah Palin and Michele Bachman the big
"C" word. He’s a one man marketing machine and he doesn’t have
to buy any advertising at all. He just opens his big mouth, inhales
through his gigantic nose and spits out something vile. Or he lets
his fingers do the talking on Twitter.

One thing you can say about Bill Maher is that he knows how to get his
message out there. You just insult someone, or something, in public,
and stand back and watch the gullible news outlets blast it around the
earth in seconds.

Maher’s latest barrage brought out the usual whiners and criers on
the right, advocating a boycott of HBO, and the impish comedian.
With every cry and complaint, Maher’s stature rose, and HBO is 
probably thinking about extending his contract and his platform. That’s
how it is on the Left: with every outrageous utterance about Christians,
your stock goes up.

Maher knows this and he plays the game well. He’s probably planning
next year’s tour and this will insure that he sells out every venue 
where he plays. It also insures that a gaggle of liberals will beat each
other with brooms to get on his show. His show, which liberals think is

    highly intellectual, is actually an exercise in bullying, which liberals claim

to oppose.
The formula is simple. Bring on one conservative and have everyone
attack him, or her, and have the audience cheer like they are on one
of the daytime television shows, where the average IQ level strains to
reach 70.
This is the same formula that the mainstream media has been using for
the last 50 years, minus the audience of idiots. 

One important thing to remember when you hear, or see, Maher spout
off, is that liberals don’t really believe in free speech. They like to 
restrict speech, and thought, as much as possible, usually through the
back door, in the form of codes and rules. Years ago, when Howard 
Stern was fighting the FCC, not one liberal in Hollywood would defend 
him. Not Alec Baldwin, not Sean Penn, not Matt Damon, not Jeanine 
Garafalo, not Oliver Stone, not one prominent Hollywood leftist came 
to his defense, while the FCC fined him millions of dollars. 

The government has no business telling anyone what they can say,
to whom, and how. Okay…you can’t yell "FIRE!" in a crowded room
when there is no fire, but that’s about it. 

Bill Maher may not be your cup of tea, or mine, either. But when it
comes to ideas, speech, thoughts…let them all flow into the arena.
Liberals thought that leftist radio, in the form of "Air America," would be
a big hit. But you can only take so much crap, before you turn it off,
or tune it out. "Air America" bombed all on its own. Let Maher sink or 
swim in the marketplace, just like everybody else.
