Tennis Bum Calls Me A Loser

I get quite a bit of mail here at the command bunker.
99% of it is positive and I actually answer, or try to
answer, almost all the inquiries I get, no matter what
the question being asked, or opinion offered.

I’ve always believed you should be able to express
your opinion, no matter how right, or wrong, it might
be. I’m not right 100% of the time, although I’m right
a lot more often than I’m wrong. I tell the truth as I see
it, with no sugarcoating of the issues, whatever they
might be.

From time to time I get letters telling me to just stick
to medicine, and leave the politics to…to…well, somebody.
That’s fine, but it isn’t ever going to happen. People who
only want to hear their own opinion should just place their
head where the moon doesn’t shine.

One of my favorite writers is a guy with whom I have
nothing in common and I vehemently disagree with about
95%, or more, of everything he writes and says. But he
is an absolutely brilliant writer and my life is enriched by
reading every word that he puts to paper. I have often
had friends ask me why I bother to read this guy’s stuff.

The answer is simple: In order to make a reasoned judgement
about what is right, and what is wrong, you need to know
both sides of an argument, not just your own, or one particular
point of view, like say, the New York Times.

A friend of mine recently told me a story about his daughter,
currently attending a very expensive college in Taxachusetts.
Both my friend and his wife are ultra liberal Democrats and they
hoped that by sending their daughter to a bastion of liberalism
that they would continue the tradition.

Over the Christmas vacation just past, the mother and daughter
engaged in an argument about one of the social issues, with the
mother quoting the New York Times, on numerous occasions.
The daughter hissed at her mother, "Do you have any thoughts of
your own, or do you let the Times do all your thinking for you?
My God, Mother, the New York Times hasn’t had a new idea
in decades, and has nothing in common with those it purports
    to represent."

The mother had an attack of what used to be called "the vapors."
My friend, who is a realist, was especially proud of his daughter
    for thinking on her own.

Which brings me to a critic, one Cecil E. Spearman, who owns
some tennis clubs in Laguna Niguel, where "the vapors" are a
common occurrence. Big Ceece didn’t like one of my missives
entitled "Why Aerobic Exercise Doesn’t Burn Fat."

OK. Maybe I could have titled it "Why Aerobic Exercise Doesn’t Burn
AS MUCH Fat as High Intensity Training." But still…this was a bit over
    the top.

This is what Big Ceece wrote:

"You are wrong and should NEVER be allowed to spread such
trash. You are a disgrace to the medical profession as well as the
    world. Get lost—LOSER"

One never gets tired of such well reasoned arguments.

I’m sure Big Ceece has a nice tan to match his empty head,
and that scores of folks ask him for medical advice on a
daily basis. One thing I’m betting a nice, crisp, clean $100
bill on, is that Big Ceece has an Obama/Biden sticker on his

    leased Mercedes.

One thing Big Ceece can’t dispute…at least not on the basis of known

    science.

Those who do long duration aerobic exercise (especially impact exercise)

    are damaging their bodies.

You can take that to the the life bank.
