Someone Followed My Advice…And Lived To Tell
Posted: November 28th, 2011 | Author: Dr. Bill Stillwell | No Comments »Thanksgiving is the first feast of what I like to call
"The Holiday Run." It lasts through the New Year
and includes any number of parties, Christmas Eve,
Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day,
and a whole lot of football. It’s pretty easy to over-
eat during this time of year, especially when friends,
neighbors and co-workers are going out of their way
to make something special.
When I was growing up, we had a next door neighbor
who baked everything under the sun, by the the box.
We always got her biggest box and I don’t remember
anything I didn’t like. Down the street, another woman
made cookies, by the thousands, and she always gave
my mother a huge basket. Then there were people from
the church who dropped things off and relatives, too.
We had enough dessert to drown an army and yet,
they always kept coming. If my mother was working,
friends brought "potluck dinners", some of which were
pretty damn good. (You knew somebody had to miss
the mark, because not everyone can cook.)
We didn’t just set a table for the holidays, we set tables,
and used plenty of space, too. We would start eating
early… and it really never stopped. When you’re young
and very active, that doesn’t necessarily show, but at
some point, it starts taking a toll and every year you
add a few pounds. Just like money in Washington, pretty
soon it starts to add up, and before you know it…you’re
fat.
Then, it takes a long time to admit it…then, more time to
do something about it.
One thing that has worked for me is the "one plate" rule,
which involves eating almost anything, but one fill up is
all I get. I use a 9 inch plate, fill it up, and that’s the show.
No curtain calls. That plate may have more on it than usual,
but there are limits to what you can stack on a plate and
actually get it to the table.
One of our readers used this rule on Thanksgiving Day,
and found it worked for him, too. He loaded up and upon
sitting, realized he had more vegetables on his plate than
anything else. That’s also a good thing…because vegetables
have loads of benefits and they move quickly through your
system. He also found that he didn’t need a nap after eating,
which means that the portion of food he consumed wasn’t
overloading his system and bogging it down.
You can find quite a bit of weight loss wisdom in my
special report, "Number One Fat Loss Secret" at:
Our reader would have done even better had he skipped
the beer, substituting water. But, one thing at a time. The
"one plate"rule works and more people should try it.
