Junk Food Is Hard On The Eyes

I’ve been busy as a three tailed beaver lately. In addition to my usual “honey do’s” and supplement research, I’m also writing a new book on things anyone can do to improve their health. I would say I’m about halfway finished with that project, in addition to all my other responsibilities, which begin with “She who must be obeyed.”

You can look for this labor of love sometime in the fall.

In yet another study from The Land Down Under, (Australia), it’s been found that eating highly processed foods, including the super sweet stuff from the bakery, has a deleterious effect on the eyes, as we get older.

Scientists from the Centre for Eye Research at the University of Australia studied the effects of diet on 6000+ volunteers, aged 58 to 69, being interested primarily in what effect diet had on Age Related Macular Degeneration.

What they found was that people who ate a lot of junk food were more likely to have AMD than those who had diets rich in omega-3 fatty acids.

AMD (Age Related Macular Degeneration) is an eye disease of the center of the retina. It causes the loss of central vision, leaving a person with only peripheral, or side vision. I don’t know about you, but I prefer the full on version of Southhampton beach bunnies, and not a side view (though, truth to tell, that’s often not bad, either) . And it would be quite difficult to drive on my “honey do’s,” with only peripheral vision.

The study found that those who had a diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids were 35% less likely to to have early stage AMD, and that they were afforded some measure of protection from the essential fatty acids. The use of olive oil in cooking also helps.

If you want fruit, eat the real thing, and don’t get it in a Danish, or piece of pie. And stay away from things that come in a box, or a package. Subsitute walnuts for peanuts, or get yourself some pumpkin seeds. I had some with a hot spice last week, and was stunned by how good they were.

And be sure and pick up some of my Powerhouse Omega Formula.

It’s easy on the eyes.
