Over the weekend, I
went to Clearwater Beach, which

has one of the best
beaches in the country. Unlike our

Head Jeffe, my
weekend consisted of business meetings,

with a few breaks.
I’m sure I accomplished more than

the Head Jeffe,
although his staff was working overtime

to convince the world
that he was working, working,

working,…and they
wouldn’t allow any pictures of him

playing golf, or
shaking it up on the dance floor, with

Michelle. (It’s hard
to dance with two left feet!) Aargh!

Before I left for
Clearwater, I finished another of the

books in my stack,
Daniel Silva’s "Portrait of a Spy."

As usual, Silva
delivers another riveting tour de force

based around Gabriel
Allon, the reluctant Israeli spy.

This one has a very
unusual twist, with a complementary

heroine.

If you haven’t read
Silva, put him on your list of must

reads. He, like many
of the authors I really like, gets

better with age.

Speaking of getting
better with age, one of the most

important things we
can do is to get proper rest and

relaxation. For
instance, getting the proper amount of

sleep is absolutely
critical to weight loss and

maintaining proper
bodyweight. It’s one of those

"hidden"
factors about weight loss, but not much is

ever written about
it. I can guarantee you one thing,

if you don’t get
eight hours of sleep on a regular basis,

you aren’t going to
lose weight and keep it off.

There was a
professional woman I knew, who was,

at one time, "at
leeze a hunnert" pounds overweight.

It was about the
sixth time I talked to her that I

discovered she slept
as little as one hour a night

(some people reveal
themselves very slowly).

This woman had been
on every diet there ever was,

which was another
problem. Yo-yoing is very hard on

your body. At that
time, she was on an Atkins style

plan of her own,
which was complicated by the fact

that she hated
vegetables. All vegetables. Then

I didn’t see her for
a bit and when I did, she was way

past "a
hunnert." She was literally busting out of her

clothes.

It was a year before
I bumped into her again. She

had lost close to 100
pounds and she actually looked

pretty good, though
she was still 50 pounds overweight.

Six months later, I
walked right by her in a lobby. She

chased me down, and I
was embarrassed because I

didn’t recognize her.
She now weighed about 140, she

had changed her hair
style and color and she was very

stylishly dressed.

We sat down to talk
and I wanted to know what had happened.

She had found a
no-nonsense trainer, who interviewed her

seven times, before
he let her come to his gym. She said he knew

more about her than
anyone in the world.

The first thing he
told her was that if she couldn’t, or

wouldn’t, get proper
rest and relaxation, she was out.

He forced her to have
a begining and an ending to her

business day. 8 PM,
cell phone off. Computer shut

down. Television off.

It wasn’t easy…she
loved her toys. But this guy realized

they were also
killing her, because she couldn’t relax. She

would field a
business call at 1 AM (and the news wasn’t

always good). And
while all this was going on, she was

filling her pie hole.

The flab gremlins
love this scenario. Usually it affects

more men than women,
but women are catching up.

This woman was lucky
she found a trainer who really knew

his business and he
didn’t just put her on any old routine,

like they do at most
gyms. She said he was tough, but that

he actually made her
look forward to his sessions. He helped

her break over three
decades of poor eating habits and get

past her vegetable
ban.

She could have
stopped going a year ago, but she still

trains hard three
days a week. She realized that getting

there was one
goal…and staying there was another. And

number two was more
important than number one.

Oh…and did I tell
you she is a devotee of my Powerhouse

Omega Formula? I
should start getting those cards like

American Express: A
Dr. Bill’s Customer since 2009.
