Florida Judge Helps With Weight Loss

Florida judges usually aren’t known for being creative, but
you really can’t blame them. You wouldn’t want to have to
sit and listen to the tall tales of crack smoking, alligator
baiting idiots that reside here, either. And that’s just for
starters, here in a state that has its share of unofficial
dementia sufferers. Flori…DUH!

But Judge Donna Miller of Lake County helped a serious
buffet molester reduce his time in jail, for driving without a
driver’s license. She originally sentenced the 350 pound
behemoth to 29 days in the county slammer, but told him he
could get out a day early for every pound of lard he lost,
while in the hoosegow.

The perp had an official weigh-in, 20 days into his sentence,
where officials were stunned to see that he had lost 25 pounds,
mostly by eating vegetables. The officials reported to the
judge, who released Lardass, just in time for some Thanksgiving
dinner. The judge had expected him to lose 5 or 6 pounds, at
the most, and was quite surprised.

In Cuhahoga County, Ohio, government officials removed an
8 year old, 200 pound child from his mother and placed him in
foster care. Social workers told the Cleveland Plain Dealer that
the boy had been under protective supervision, since 2010, when
he developed sleep apnea, which is commonly weight related.

Arthur Caplan, at the University of Pennsylvania, says that an
"8 year old who weighs over 200 pounds is a ticking time bomb."

While the child is in foster care, mother and son will only be allowed
to spend time together for two hours a week. County officials (social
workers) say the child’s condition was catastrophic.

Caplan says that doesn’t merit the county removing the child from
the home and giving him to another family.

If this case stands, there are a whole lot of fat kids going to be
uprooted and raised by the government. Just for starters, with
the statistics on hand, 1,400 kids would be removed from their
families and guess who’s going to pay for that.

By the way, the fat kid is an honor student at his school. This
would seem to suggest that county officials (social workers)
didn’t really do their homework on this.

The public defender says intervention was appropriate, but asks,
"When did the risk become life threatening? When did it become
a problem that had to be solved this minute?"

The nanny state continues to grow… and grow… and grow….

When all that really had to be done was giving Junior a little
less chow. And maybe the presence of a father would make
a difference (as long as Dad wasn’t the hog I mentioned at the
beginning of this piece).

An Honor Roll kid could probably figure this thing out for himself,
if he just had a few simple tools.
