Why Conservatives Trying To Take Bill Maher Off The Air Are Wrong

Posted: December 30th, 2011 | Author: Dr. Bill Stillwell | No Comments »

This time he insulted Jesus, Tim Tebow and Christianity. Last
time around he called Sarah Palin and Michele Bachman the big
"C" word. He’s a one man marketing machine and he doesn’t have
to buy any advertising at all. He just opens his big mouth, inhales
through his gigantic nose and spits out something vile. Or he lets
his fingers do the talking on Twitter.

One thing you can say about Bill Maher is that he knows how to get his
message out there. You just insult someone, or something, in public,
and stand back and watch the gullible news outlets blast it around the
earth in seconds.

Maher’s latest barrage brought out the usual whiners and criers on
the right, advocating a boycott of HBO, and the impish comedian.
With every cry and complaint, Maher’s stature rose, and HBO is
probably thinking about extending his contract and his platform. That’s
how it is on the Left: with every outrageous utterance about Christians,
your stock goes up.

Maher knows this and he plays the game well. He’s probably planning
next year’s tour and this will insure that he sells out every venue
where he plays. It also insures that a gaggle of liberals will beat each
other with brooms to get on his show. His show, which liberals think is

highly intellectual, is actually an exercise in bullying, which liberals claim

to oppose.
The formula is simple. Bring on one conservative and have everyone
attack him, or her, and have the audience cheer like they are on one
of the daytime television shows, where the average IQ level strains to
reach 70.
This is the same formula that the mainstream media has been using for
the last 50 years, minus the audience of idiots.

One important thing to remember when you hear, or see, Maher spout
off, is that liberals don’t really believe in free speech. They like to
restrict speech, and thought, as much as possible, usually through the
back door, in the form of codes and rules. Years ago, when Howard
Stern was fighting the FCC, not one liberal in Hollywood would defend
him. Not Alec Baldwin, not Sean Penn, not Matt Damon, not Jeanine
Garafalo, not Oliver Stone, not one prominent Hollywood leftist came
to his defense, while the FCC fined him millions of dollars.

The government has no business telling anyone what they can say,
to whom, and how. Okay…you can’t yell "FIRE!" in a crowded room
when there is no fire, but that’s about it.

Bill Maher may not be your cup of tea, or mine, either. But when it
comes to ideas, speech, thoughts…let them all flow into the arena.
Liberals thought that leftist radio, in the form of "Air America," would be
a big hit. But you can only take so much crap, before you turn it off,
or tune it out. "Air America" bombed all on its own. Let Maher sink or
swim in the marketplace, just like everybody else.

If you’re taking my Powerhouse Omega Formula, you already have
an improved brain and can certainly separate the wheat from the
chaff, all by yourself. If you truly desire to breathe the rarified air of
the rest of us, here, you need to get started now.

Ed Begley Wants You To Read The Peer Reviewed Studies

Posted: December 29th, 2011 | Author: Dr. Bill Stillwell | No Comments »

While piloting my Barcalounger 3 through unexplored territory a
few nights ago, around 3 AM, I listened to Ed Begley expound on
the environment. Ed is a true believer the green movement and
even had a TV show about himself, for a few minutes, called
"Living with Ed."

In the show, Ed wastes a lot of time showing how much he cares
about the planet and goes to some rather ridiculous lengths to
accomplish very little. He also visits with other Hollywood greenies
to show what they have done to make this a better world. Some
might argue that he’s up against impossible odds here, because
if there were ever a Love Canal West, it would be Hollywood.

In the show, Ed is confronted by someone who doesn’t believe that
the moonshine he is selling is free of worms. Instead of calmly
debating the issue, Ed goes ballastic and starts screaming,
"Read the peer reviewed studies! Read the peer reviewed studies!"
Like this would convince anyone who had doubts.

Here’s a little something you might not know.

Every year…every year…hundreds of peer reviewed studies are
retracted. Some of these retractions involve no clear malfeasance;
the authors themselves often detect errors and retract their own
work.

A high percentage of retractions though, entail plagiarism, false
authorship, or cooked data. While Ed Begley will never admit it,
we now know that hundreds of scientists worldwide "cooked"
the data on which many hysterical environmental claims are made.
They had their reasons for this, chief among them money and
self advancement.

Here is an example of a retracted "peer reviewed study."

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is caused by a virus.

Chronic fatigues syndrome (CFS) is a disorder of unknown origin.
Some researchers, in fact, consider this a psychological disorder,
largely confined to wealthier countries, affecting more women than
men.

Then came a study published in Science, in October 2009, by
researchers from the Whittemore Peterson Institute in Reno.
The researchers associated CFS with something called
"xenotropic murine leukemia virus" (XMRV), which they said
they found in blood samples of patients with CFS.

CFS advocates were elated. At last, here was proof that their
disease was real, they said. Retrovirus experts, on the other hand,
were skeptical. Maybe the blood samples were contaminated.
It turns out that the paper is likely wrong. No other lab could
reproduce the results.

Science issued an "Editorial Expression of Concern" in July,
after the authors refused to retract their paper. The Science
Editorial states bluntly that the study purported "to show that
XMRV was present in the blood of 67% of patients with CFS
compared to 3.7% of healthy controls.

Since then, at least 10 studies conducted by other investigators
and published elsewhere have reported a failure to detect XMRV
in independent populations of CFS patients."

The authors finally issued a partial retraction in September,
removing data now known to be from contaminated sources.
Science followed with a full retraction on December 23rd.

Meanwhile, in a disturbing twist, senior author Judy Mikovits
was fired from Whittemore Peterson Institute and arrested in
California in November, over charges of possession of stolen
property and the unlawful taking of computer data, equipment
and supplies.

Science is now investigating whether data for the study was,
in fact, manipulated.

The fact is that "peer reviewed studies" does not an argument
make, even if a true believer like Ed Begley is saying it. A
study has to actually stand up to be believable, which means
it has to be tested independently and reproduced by others. In
many published studies of the environmentalists, we know that
data was manipulated, computer models were badly flawed,
many "independent reviews" were faked and evidence that did
not support the conclusions reached was destroyed.

It’s a good thing that so many more people are taking my
Powerhouse Omega Formula. It keeps your brain in good
shape, which means that you can’t be bee essed, like so
many others.

Fish Oil Helps With Degenerative Arthritis

Posted: December 27th, 2011 | Author: Dr. Bill Stillwell | No Comments »

27 million people in the U.S. suffer from degenerative arthritis,
which is also called osteoarthritis. The disease is caused by
wear and tear on the joints, and often affects the weight bearing
articulations, such as the knees and hips, but it can also affect the
wrists, feet and spine.

Degenerative arthritis can occur in any joint in the body; it’s an
equal opportunity inflamer. The joints become painful when the
bone cartilage that protects the joints erodes away, exposing the
bone, which causes friction and damage. This causes unpleasant
pain, stiffness, swelling and a loss of mobility.

Heat, cold, humidity and other weather related factors can increase
the severity of the symptoms. A good number of patients who suffer
from degenerative arthritis may eventually need joint replacement
surgery to reduce disability, alleviate pain and have a better quality
of life. Before my accident, this was how I made my living.

My Powerhouse Omega Formula can, and should, be used by
anyone suffering from degenerative arthritis, to help relieve the
inflammation and the resulting pain and stiffness in the joints.

http://www.drbillsformulas.com

A recent double blind clinical trial in Australia, with several hundred
participants between the ages of 40 and 60, found that there was a
clinically important improvement in the pain levels and disability of
the participants, after 3 months of taking fish oil.

Currently, about 80% of degenerative arthritis sufferers rely heavily
on NSAIDS (non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs) such as Aleve,
Advil, Motrin, etc.,to reduce their suffering. The downside of this is that
prolonged use of NSAIDS can harm the lining of the stomach. Long
time use of my Powerhouse Omega Formula can reduce the need
for NSAIDS, as well as improve your general health.

A Great Story Anytime Of Year

Posted: December 23rd, 2011 | Author: Dr. Bill Stillwell | No Comments »

I subscribe to a large number of websites, and this
one always has something to recommend it. This
was their latest story, and I thought I’d send it along
to help them gain some new readers.

"Her words made all the difference in my life."

You Are Not Alone Story Editor:
by Lucy Hanouille Joyce Schowalter
Texas, USA

My father died when I was twenty years old. Up until his death, I
had never told anyone of his illness or the suffering that our
family had endured for the past fifteen years. It was the family
secret -- we learned well not to discuss it.

Death sometimes has a way of revealing secrets. I was encouraged to
take the news of my loss to the Assistant Dean of my art school,
Doris Kinsella.

Doris was, in my opinion, one of the world's best listeners. I found
myself pouring my heart out to her. She listened, gave advice and
encouraged me to stay in school and in counseling.

As I left her office, she pointed down the hall at another girl I
knew and liked and said, "See that girl? She lost her father this
weekend. Heart attack. Very sudden, very unexpected."

That was all she said. But from that moment, I looked for that other
girl. If she was working in the studio, I worked. If she was going
to classes, I went. I couldn't imagine how it felt to lose someone
so quickly; I admired her courage. Having known my father was
dying... if she could keep going, I could, too.

At the school year's end, the other student, "Alice" and I were
talking. We shared our deep respect for Doris and the comfort she
had brought to our lives in this difficult year.

Alice then told me her story. She also had been encouraged to see
Doris when her father died. She also found a deep, thoughtful,
compassionate listener in Doris. Doris had suggested grief
counseling and encouraged her to stay in school.

When they walked out of her office together, Doris pointed towards
me and said, "See that girl? Her father just died after 15 long
years of illness. No one really knows what made him ill."

After that, Alice looked for me every day. If I was working in the
studio, she worked in the studio. If she saw me going to classes,
she went to classes. Alice said she couldn't imagine how it must
have felt to live with the inevitability of death for so long. We
both agreed that it didn't matter how the loss occurred -- it still
hurt deeply.

In that way, without even speaking, we kept each other in school. We
kept each other going. With one simple sentence, Doris kept us both
in school.

We lost Doris to cancer almost 20 years ago, but her kindness and
her love for me as a student and person have stayed with me to this
day. I realize now that the lesson she taught me, by her simple
statements, has been a guiding light keeping me going through the
hard times in my life. No matter how alone depression or PTSD made
me feel, I knew I was not alone after all.

Effective Supplements Or More Expensive Medications And Treatment

Posted: December 22nd, 2011 | Author: Dr. Bill Stillwell | No Comments »

When I went to medical school back in the …it suddenly feels
like so long ago… you could count the hours we spent on
Alternative Medicine on one hand. Actually you didn’t need a
hand, because there was no such thing as Alternative Medicine,
what I now like to call Preventive Medicine.

The time for the doctor to intervene was when a real problem
presented itself. But that model obviously had flaws. For instance,
a heart attack was often the first sign of a heart problem.
And…only half of heart attack victims survive. It left many of us
thinking that maybe we should get involved a bit earlier.

A lot has changed since those days and many physicians now
recommend fish oil, CoQ10, proper diet and exercise. Those
things would have been heresy many years ago and even today,
effective supplements are often avoided, in favor of the latest and
greatest wonder drug (much more expensive).

This is odd, considering that diet is the single most influential
factor in good health, but there you have it.

What is the single most important missing element in the modern
diet?

The answer is omega 3 fatty acids, which you can get by supplementing
with my Powerhouse Omega Formula. This isn’t just any old over-the-
counter fish oil, manufactured who knows where, with no real standards,
but a pharmaceutical grade, third party inspected and assayed, small
fish, deep water fish oil that will stand at the top of any product list.

The Powerhouse Omega Formula will help your brain, which is composed
of 60% fats (fully HALF of which are omega 3′s), and has been effective in
the treatment of mood swings, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, ADHD,
post part partum depression and a plethora of other conditions.

It will also help your heart. Heart disease is the #1 killer in the western
world, according to the NIH and WHO.

One fundamental effect of omega 3 fats on the blood is that they make
platelets less sticky. In essence, they act like the very expensive and side
effect causing blood thinners that doctors prescribe for heart patients. They
also prevent the clumping of platelets into clots, which can trigger heart attacks
and strokes if they block vessels in your heart or brain, respectively.

Even the backward looking American Heart Association has finally admitted
that fish oil supplementation improves the health of those with heart conditions
and prevents many other disorders.

The time to improve your health is now. The earlier you get started, the better.

Can You Make A Low Calorie Latke

Posted: December 21st, 2011 | Author: Dr. Bill Stillwell | No Comments »

A latke is a potato pancake…in case you were wondering.
They are a staple dish of Hanukkah, which usually falls sometime
around Christmas (started this year at sundown, last night, in fact).
Being Brooklyn born, I’ve eaten quite a few of these, over the years.

The reader who posed the question has, too, and she
knows how they are made and cooked. The problem isn’t
in the making, as only a few ingredients are necessary.
The problem is in the cooking. Latkes are usually deep
fried, or at the very least, cooked in a substantial amount
of oil. Then you add condiments, usually sour cream, or
applesauce. Both are good choices in matters of taste,
but sour cream adds substantially more calories.

Interestingly enough, I saw this problem solved years ago
by a friend of mine who’s a fine cook. He also grew up in
Brooklyn, and loved latkes, but the old version had too
many calories for him, too.

Having a number of kitchen toys at his disposal, he set
to work. After about a dozen versions, he settled upon a
fairly easy solution. Instead of using a deep fryer, or saute
pan, he uses a flat griddle. This substantially reduces the
amount of oil, which is where the calories lie.

Here is how he does it.

Potato Latkes

3 pounds russet potatoes
3 Tbsp fresh lemon juice
2 medium onions, finely diced
3/4 cup all purpose flour
3-4 eggs, lightly beaten
1 1/2 Tsp salt
3/4 Tsp freshly ground pepper
3 Tbsp peanut oil

Preheat your oven to 300 degrees.

Preheat your griddle to 350 degrees.

Scrub the potatoes with a stiff brush. (I don’t peel mine…
but you can, if you want to.)

Using the shredding disk on your food processor, run the
potatoes through. Place the potatoes in a large bowl and
add the lemon juice. Finely dice the onion and add to the
bowl. Toss to coat.

Place the potato onion mix in a kitchen towel and wring
out as much water as you can. You may be surprised at
how much there is.

Wipe out the bowl and add the potato mix back into the bowl.
Add the flour, eggs, salt and pepper. Mix all the ingredients
well.

Brush the griddle with some peanut oil. Using a generous
1/2 cup measure, drop the potato mixture on the grill. Using
a spatula, flatten out the mix on the grill. I can get 4 pancakes
on my grill. Now…be patient. Don’t move the latkes around,
or flip them. Wait until they brown…then flip. When they are nice
and crisp, place them on a sheet pan and put them in the oven.

Repeat the process.

If you’re dieting, serve with applesauce.

If you’re splurging, use sour cream. Either way they’ll be
delicious. If you have a sense of adventure, add diced
peppers, pre-cooked bacon or ham (if you’re not kosher), or
shredded cheese. Or all of the above.

Technically, they won’t be latkes anymore, but they will put a
smile on your face. And these additions will add a few calories…
but nothing like deep frying, or pan frying them.

To all our Jewish friends, Happy Hanukkah!

Rest In Peace Christopher Hitchens

Posted: December 20th, 2011 | Author: Dr. Bill Stillwell | No Comments »

Over the weekend, we lost one of the great minds of our time,
the writer, Christopher Hitchens. Hitchens died from complications
of the treatment he was receiving for esophogeal cancer.

I first read a Hitchens piece at least a decade ago and maybe
closer to two. He wrote a brilliantly satirical piece about liking
to read a bit of smut, every now and then. I then started to look
for things that he had written I and would make a special effort
to listen, if he was on television, or radio. In those days, Hitchens
was writing for The Nation, a predictable socialist rag, that
became unpredictable when he wrote, because even though he
was a socialist himself, he was never predictable.

Hitchens would part company with his fellow comrades after
9/11, when he became a very staunch defender of the West
and what it stood for. He would often excoriate his opponents
on the page, exposing them as would-be emperors, with no
clothes. He was a damn fine debater, too, and I’m sure you can
find his debate with the British Marxist, George Galloway, on
your personal Google machine. Galloway was no slouch as a
debater himself, but Hitchens exposed him as a liar and charlatan
in those debates about Iraq.

I only agreed with Hitchens’ political positions about 20% of the
time. But I had enormous respect for the arguments he crafted to
support his positions. He was more than extremely well read,
he was almost like a search engine, before there was such a thing.
He also didn’t just confine his writings to politics and he wrote on
topics others had neither the time, or the intellect, to address.

I remember a time when he appeared on MSNBC, for some
election event, and his comments made all the other panelists
squirm and twist in their seats, like kids who wanted to run away.
He had a rapier wit and they didn’t appreciate it being used on
them. While providing commentary on the current political
situation, Hitchens also showed that the other panelists didn’t
know their history, past or present, and that when it came down
to it, they really didn’t know what they were talking about, unless
they were talking among themselves, where everyone agrees
with everyone else.

I never cared whether Hitchens was right or wrong on a subject;
I just wanted to hear what he had to say about it. He always
made you think about a subject from another angle, or in a
different light.

Hitchens had some bad habits, which in the end, probably did
him in. He was a heavy smoker and a man who loved his malt
beverages, more than most. Unfortunately for him, his warning
sign came with a diagnosis of cancer last year and, though he
struggled mightily to beat the disease, the disease finally won out.

I think God (in who, or in which, Hitchens did not believe) had grown
tired of his present staff and needed someone to bounce his ideas
off. I can see them arguing, as they walk through the Great Library
grounds.

Bon Voyage, Christopher. You will be missed.

Are You Out Of Gas

Posted: December 19th, 2011 | Author: Dr. Bill Stillwell | No Comments »

This time of year can be a non-stop hassle. There are
gifts to buy, special foods to be made, parties to go to,
and all the regular stuff that still needs to be done, like
work and cleaning, and more honeydooze than you can
keep track of, without some sort of device.

And then, if you’re just a little bit like me, you go to the
store, and forget to get something important, that the

missus reminded you about… twice . Then, there’s no

time to sneak in a little refreshing nap and by the time
9 PM rolls around, you’re done, kaput, finito.

One way to combat the stress of the holidays is to have
an ample supply of my Heart Charging Formula, which is
a fancy name for CoQ10. When we get to a certain age…
and that age can be different for all of us…our bodies can’t
be pushed like when we were teenagers, or in our twenties,
when we had enough energy on hand to go non-stop for
days on end.

I remember a bachelor friend of mine telling me, one day,
that his carousing days were over. He was 37, or 38 at
the time, and he played as equally hard as he worked.
He said he got out of bed, looked in the mirror, and he
knew his days of staying out all night, then showering
and going to work, were over. His body was telling him
that it simply couldn’t make enough energy for him to
continue his earlier lifestyle.
Even if you are not a partier, like he was, the same thing
can happen to you, at some point in your life. All of a
sudden, it feels like everything just… slooows down.

At this point, you want to make sure you are taking good
care of yourself, eating right, getting exercise and sunlight,
along with enough sleep. You also should start supplementing
with CoQ10. I personally take 200 mg a day, 150mg in the morning,
and 50mg at night. My wife takes all of hers in the morning, as
she has trouble sleeping, if she takes it at night.

Taken regularly, CoQ10 can boost your energy level back up.
It won’t make you 25 again, or a party animal, but it will help
you cope withing getting older and not being able to produce
energy like you did when you were younger. This is important
in an age when everything around us is changing at the speed
of a whirlwind.

Results From Oklahoma

Posted: December 16th, 2011 | Author: Dr. Bill Stillwell | No Comments »

If I was to make a list of places I’ve never been, Oklahoma
would be on the list. So would Wyoming, which I think is close.
I have a cousin who lives in Oklahoma, at some place called
Hooker, which is out in the desert, from what I hear. He’s a city
boy who went country years ago, much to the consternation
of his family and friends, who didn’t fancy themselves traipsing
all the way to Oklahoma.

My cousin had a nickname growing up, which was Bubba. The
police gave it to him, Bubba being short for Beelzebub, one of
the names given to the devil, or one of his compadres. Bubba
was hell on wheels, between the ages of 15 and 26. He spent
a number of days in the can, but always managed to do well
at trial, where he got off the hook, way more often than not. The
police finally decided to leave him alone, which is all I think he
ever wanted in the first place.

At 25, Bubba picked up and moved to Chicago, where he got
a job with a meat company. He started on the cleaning crew
and he’d hose down the killing floor at night. Every few months,
he got promoted and at 27, the company put him in the sales
department. In his first year, he outsold all the other salesman
in the company combined. The next year, the company made him
Vice President of Sales. In the next few years, the company grew
by leaps and bounds. They needed to undertake a major expansion
and Oklahoma was where they decided to do it.

Bubba went out and surveyed the area and came back a cowboy,
complete with the hat, boots and belt. The company moved, built
their plant and prospered. Bubba now runs the entire operation
and flies all over the country, making deals.

Along the way, he acquired a cowgirl, and 4 li’l cowpokes. He also
put on a little weight. Last year, he checked in around 310 pounds.
His doctor told him that he had to give some things up, like
whiskey, beer and eating all the time. He tried a few diets, but
they didn’t work. He asked me for a simple way to make the weight
come off.

I told him to go out and buy some measuring cups. Then I told him
that he got two cups of food for breakfast, one for lunch and three for
dinner. At dinner, two of the three cups have to be vegetables. At
breakfast, one of the cups has to be fruit. He can snack twice a day,
a half cup of fruits, or vegetables.

Bubba has done pretty well. Yesterday he hit the scale at 265, which
is a loss of 45 pounds. He bought a bike and he’s riding it on some trails
near his home. He bought a XX shirt and it fit. He’s been special
ordering shirts for years. He thinks that he wants to get down to 210,
which is what he weighed at the time he up and left for Chicago. I’m
pretty sure he’s going to make it. His wife promised him that if he makes
210, he can buy some very expensive cowboy boots that he’s been
talking about for years. These would be more expensive than the already
expensive collection that he already has.

One thing to keep in mind is that your body can recover from almost
anything. After years of drinking and eating long into the night, it can
respond to a healthier approach very quickly. And the sooner you get
it turned in the right direction, the better off you’ll be.

Find out how you can drop the lard, just like my cousin Bubba, and get
back in good shape.
