Another Warning For Fat Fockers

Posted: August 19th, 2011 | Author: Dr. Bill Stillwell | No Comments »

Yesterday on the news, there was a pretty decent segment
on the perils of being overweight. I say pretty decent, because
television reporting is, more often than not, off the mark when
they do segments on disease. Most of the time, they give you
a big headline, make a quick stab at the subject and then it’s
time for a commercial, or something really important, like a
story about why the metro escalators never work and how
hatd it is for people to actually walk up the steps.

If it were up to me I would make everyone walk up the steps,
because it’s good for them. This would undoubtably cause
much consternation, and bring out the ACLU, who would
remind everyone about the right to be a fat focker, which
automatically gives you a right to an escalator.

I try and remind everyone at least once a month, and
maybe more, about the Perils of  Being Porcine. I have
told the story about the warning given by the chief
executive of a major pharmaceutical company, which
was, in a nutshell, "Do not let yourself become fat!"

His reasoning, after slogging through 20 year’s worth
of research and development, was that being humongous
is a breeding ground for almost every disease under the
sun. That may be good for the bottom line at the large
pharmaceutical companies, but it’s very bad news for
you, if you happen to fall in the swollen category.

In the segment I watched yesterday, the really bad
news was for men. That doesn’t mean that women
are unaffected by the obesity factor, but that their
numbers were just slightly lower than men overall,
in this particular study. In my reading of the results,
the dangers are just as great for women.

If you are overweight, and this means you do not
have to be obese, you are courting 8 of the 10 major
killers, in terms of disease. Men are increasing their
chances of getting heart disease by 70%. That’s a
phenomenal chance you’re taking by carrying a beer
gut, spare tire, jelly belly, whatever you want to call
it.

As a society, we have embraced the spare tire, often
as a sign of success. It’s time to stop, because
carrying that sign of success also means that Joe
Black is just around the corner (a really bad Brad Pitt
movie, I once had to endure).

Take it from a former fat guy, it’s time to shed the
flubber. If you want to sit in the Obamacare lines to
see a doctor, that’s all well and good; it’s your time
to waste. But it is possible to live in good health, with
a little bit of effort. You can get some sound advice here:

I’ll be back tomorrow with more.

With my best wishes for your optimum health,

I Left His Tickets At The Window

Posted: August 18th, 2011 | Author: Dr. Bill Stillwell | No Comments »

A couple of days back, I had tickets for a major league

ball game. As happens sometimes, a conflict arose that
left me unable to attend. These were pretty good seats
and if I couldn’t go, I thought somebody else should have
them, so I left them at the window. The girl inside asked
me who she should give them to, and remembering it
was the anniversary of the death of one E. A. Presley,
I said to give them to Elvis.

This caused the girl to laugh, and she said, cracking her
gum and everything, "He’s dead…ain’t he?"

"You never know," I said.

It’s been 34 years since Elvis Aaron Presley walked
anywhere, that I know of. In some year, which escapes
me, but it was the year he looked good, and was wearing
the black leather outfit, a friend offered me a ticket to see
him. I was studying for an important exam at the time and
going to a concert would have involved central nervous
system depressants and maybe alcohol, which would not have
helped me one bit. I passed on the one chance I had to
see the King.

My friends told me it was one of the greatest things they
had ever seen. They also said that about every band they
ever saw, including Grand Funk Railroad, which should give
you pause.

The next time I thought about Elvis was when they announced
that he was dead.

Then, he was brought back into my memory bank by a couple
of afternoon drive DJ’s, whose names escape me, but they
were both fat…and funny. They had a routine they used to
do on Elvis trivia, on the third Friday of every month. The first
time I heard it, I almost had an accident, because I was laughing
so hard.

That day, they focused on Elvis’ s health and the condition of
his body, when it was examined. As we all know, Elvis was a
porker when he died. He was so big that he couldn’t even get
outfits made for him. (Did you know that he named all his outfits?)
The contest they had that day was for contestants to guess
the weight of Elvis’s colon on the day he died. (All this information
can be found.) I ended up sitting in a grocery store parking lot,
laughing my S off.

What happened to Elvis is what’s happened to scores of men.
He got so fat, his heart couldn’t push the load anymore. Add
in the drugs and alcohol, and you have a recipe for death at
an early age.

Even without the drugs and alcohol, Elvis wouldn’t have made
it to 45. There was just too much stress on his heart.

There are a lot of men out there that live like Elvis. By that,
I mean they eat too much, drink too much and put enormous
pressure on their hearts, to keep up. You can only do that for
a short period of time, before the hammer comes down.

The time to get healthy isn’t next year, or next month.

It’s now.

Was Warren Buffet Trying To Help Obama

Posted: August 17th, 2011 | Author: Dr. Bill Stillwell | No Comments »

The other day, before the country’s Great Mouseketeer

set off on his Magical Misery Tour of the Midwest, the
80 something year old Warren Buffet said that the country’s
billionaires had been coddled by Congress for too long and that
they should pay up.

Mickey the Great (Obama), then used what Buffet said
as a justification for his "Tax the Rich" program. Buffet
is a longtime Democrat and a liberal, to boot. He is joined
at the hip with his buddy Bill Gates and both are big time
billionaires.

Both of them have put the lion’s share of their money in
each other’s foundations, exempting it from taxation, forever.
Whatever income they now draw, while still in the millions,
is a paltry sum, when compared to the money they have
taken out of circulation. Buffet said he only paid around
17 K in taxes last year and many in his office paid more.

Gates, when asked several years ago about the number
one reason for his success, replied candidly, "We (Microsoft),
knew the tax code better than anyone in the world."

So now, Buffet says the rich should pay more. But he did
make some distinctions, even though most of what he said
was just grandpa grandstanding about an issue he isn’t ever
going to face.

He said those with an income of over $1 million dollars
should pay "a little" more. Then, he said that those with
an income over $10 million should "pay more." He never
did define what billionaires should pay.

He didn’t say anything about those with an income of
"$200,000" or more, where Mickey and his Magical
Misery Tour want to draw the line. Buffet at least knows
where a line could be drawn.

But what’s missing from this whole debate (although
it was mentioned by Buffet), is a reform of the Tax Code,
wherein everyone would pay. (This is, of course, the Flat
Tax). The problem now is that 50% of the people in this
country pay no tax at all. None! Nada! Zip! (And this
number is going up…not down).

Here’s the Dr. Bill Solution:

If you don’t pay taxes…you cannot vote.

Simple. If you don’t pay, you don’t play.

There’s a businessman I know, a very successful
guy, and he’s always ranting and railing about politics.
One day in his office, he was on the phone during one
of his rants, and his secretart said to me, "I wish he’d
just shut up about the politics…he’s never voted in
his life."

Now…I have to admit, this was quite a shock, but
I also have to admit there are a whole lot of Bandwagon Bobs
out there. My tax solution would be easy. You go to
register to vote and you bring along a card that says
you paid taxes last year, or, that you are currently paying
taxes.  If not, sayonara baby! Pay the piper, or shut your
pie hole, that’s the ticket.

Warren Buffet was trying to help Obama, but more than
anything…he was trying to help himself. You see, a
recession is very good for Buffet, who hasn’t picked
particularly well the last few years (see analysis of
Berkshire Hathaway). But, when stocks come crashing down
and you happen to have a bucketload of cash…it becomes
much easier. Buy low…Sell high. And lately, Buffet is
doing a lot of buying.

Staying healthy is recession proof. You don’t need
Obama, or Buffet, to get yourself in shape and the
investment is small…compared to being unhealthy
and visiting the doctor on a constant basis. You can
start with my Powerhouse Omega Formula, a
pharmaceutical grade fish oil, from the deep waters
off Norway. My Powerhouse Omega Formula is not
the stuff you find on the shelf whe,n you go shopping.

It’s like the difference between buying a Mercedes
or an old Ford Pinto. The PInto might indeed be
cheap, but you wouldn’t want to be seen in it.

How The King Made A Serious Mistake

Posted: August 16th, 2011 | Author: Dr. Bill Stillwell | No Comments »

I’m hanging out in my office, where it’s quite peaceful.

The better half is out doing whatever it is women do
under the guise of the salon. I learned long ago not to
even inquire which salon, or for what purpose. So when it
comes up, I just nod.

I picked out a book on Abe Lincoln because whenever
I read one of the many Lincoln books I have around, I
always come across a good story. Today was no different.

One time, Abraham Lincoln read a story about a certain

King who wanted to go hunting, and he asked the Court
Minister if it would rain. The Minister told him the weather
    would be fair.

Setting out, the royal party met a farmer, riding a jackass.
The farmer warned the King it was going to rain. The King
laughed, went on, but no sooner had he got started hunting
than a heavy downpour drenched him and his party. He went
back, threw out the minister and called for the farmer.

"Tell me how you knew it would rain?" asked the King.

"I did not know, Your Majesty. It’s not me, it’s my jackass.
He puts his ears forward when it’s going to be wet."

The King sent the farmer away, had the jackass brought in,
and installed it, instead of the minister.

"It was here," said Lincoln, "that the King made a very
serious mistake."

"How so?" asked someone in the audience.

"Why…ever since that time…every jackass wants an
office!"

Ain’t it the truth!

I found another gem a few pages later.

Speaking of a fellow lawyer, Lincoln said, "He can
compress the most words into the smallest idea better
than any man I have ever met."

This kind of mental clarity isn’t for everybody, only the
ones sharp enough to order my Powerhouse Omega
Formula, which virtually guarantees that you’ll be sharper
than the average Bear.

I’ll be back tomorrrow with more.

With my best wishes for your optimum health,

Dr. Bill

A Very Sobering Tale

Posted: August 15th, 2011 | Author: Dr. Bill Stillwell | No Comments »

Not all stories have happy endings.

I don’t like to focus on negative things, but I
thought you should hear this story, because
actions can have severe consequences.

About two decades ago, I met a salesman
named Greg. I can’t even remember what he
was selling at the time, but he had this very
likable quality about him. Somehow he managed
to look disheveled, in spite of nice clothing and
spotlessly shined shoes.

He asked me questions I normally wouldn’t answer
to anyone, much less somebody I just met, but
somehow, I just felt comfortable with him. The other
thing that stood out was that he had an extremely
droll sense of humor that was quite appealing.

I became a customer of his and over the years,
we became friends. We had known each other about
ten years, when he mentioned that his wife was a
diabetic. He told me that she was having a lot of
problems, because she wouldn’t follow any of the
rules the doctor laid out for her and he literally
had to force her to take her medication. I advised
him to seek psychiatric help, which he did. The
doctor diagnosed her with severe depression,
which is a side effect of diabetes, made worse
by not taking the proper medication.

She improved for a time with anti-depressants, even
taking her medication without a fuss. Then one day,
she announced she wasn’t going to take any more
medication. This scared the hell out of Greg, who went
to see the doctors himself and the prognosis they
gave him was dire. Sooner or later, she would slip into
a diabetic coma, and then die.

Greg hired a nurse to watch over her, hoping she
would take some medication, but she refused. They
tried to control her food, but she would cheat whenever
no one was watching.

She fell into a coma one day and died about 45
days later. Greg then fell into a depression himself.
He wasn’t suicidal, but as he will tell you himself, he
was in deep water.

I got him to start walking and boy…did he walk. Miles
and miles and miles. Then, I got him to start using fish
oil and he seemed to wake up. He is seeing a very
good psychiatrist ,now, and is really coming around, to
the point he won’t need therapy for very much longer.

Our friends, the British, have been using fish oil to
treat depression for a decade, with very positive results.
Their most impressive results have been with teenagers
and what they would call "hooligans". Studies there
attribute about two thirds of aberrant teenage behavior
to an imbalance of omega-3′s.

In other parts of Europe, fish oil is a first line of defense
against a host of ailments and it’s always given before any
drugs are used.

Someday ,we’ll get there.

Diabetic Using My Program Gets A Thumbs Up

Posted: August 12th, 2011 | Author: Dr. Bill Stillwell | No Comments »
Yesterday, I received an email from a reader…I should say
a devoted reader, because he uses three of my products,
my Powerhouse Omega Formula, my CoQ10 Formula, and
my Joint Formula. He had just come back to his office,
after a visit with his endocrinologist. Let’s call the guy Jack,
for this letter, since I’m sure he’d rather I not reveal his real
name.

Jack was diagnosed with Type II diabetes about 10 years
ago. He never had much success with the programs previous
doctors put him on. A couple of years ago, a note he sent me
was an inspiration for a column called, "Would You Take
Advice From A Fat Nutritionist?" which brought in a ton of mail.
Jack, who is a good sized guy, was sent to a nutritionist who
turned out to be bigger than he was and he wondered why
anybody would listen to her advice. Jack, who is also a very
straight shooter, wondered this out loud in her office, which
got him kicked out. But I’ll tell you…he had a very valid point.
So for years he tried to get control of his blood sugar, without
a lot of success. He was in a business meeting one day and
the talk turned to diabetes. One of the people in the room highly
recommended a specific doctor. Jack made an appointment
and went to see him. He liked the guy and decided to start
seeing him. His second visit revealed that his results were worse
than at the time of his first visit. Jack was again discouraged.

Shortly after his second visit, Jack met a guy who was
on my program. He purchased it:

and started doing some of the things I recommended, in addition
to using my formulas.

A funny thing happened — Jack started losing weight. His
energy level started to pick up and some of his minor aches
and pains disappeared.

But something else happened, too. Following my recommendation
to get rid of, or not eat…packaged food…his blood sugar
started dropping. At first, Jack couldn’t believe it himself.
Instead of waking with a blood sugar level of 180 (very high),
he was waking with a level of 120. (still high…but much better).

Then, he started tweaking his food intake even further, by
reversing how he ate. He had always been a guy who liked
a big dinner. He would eat a light breakfast, a bigger lunch
and an even bigger dinner, with snacks thrown in along the
way, and popcorn, at least 4 times a week.

Jack started eating a big breakfast, a lighter lunch and an
even lighter dinner. He also cut out all food after 7 PM,
which eliminated the popcorn.

His blood sugar dropped even more, into the high 80′s and
low 90′s.

When he next saw his endocrinologist, he gave a blood sample…
and the doctor was stunned. He had dropped his A1C level
from 8.2 … to 6.4. The doctor was amazed, but very happy.

He wanted to know how it happened, and Jack told him
about yours truly. "That’s some good advice," said the
doctor.  "Keep up the outstanding work!"

Now…if only the better half would start listening…but
why press my luck?

I’ll be back tomorrow with more.

With my best wishes for your optimum health,

Dr. Bill
