Back a few decades ago, I had a job as a short order cook in what would be called a joint. I actually liked the job, and it took a higher skill level than most people on the other side of the counter, or in a booth, may have thought.
One of the skills you learn as a short order cook is the art of juggling any number of things at one time, and then producing them all at once. You also need really good hand/eye coordination, and good manual dexterity. You learn to tell when food is done by touch, and smell, and if you don’t…well…McDonald’s was just starting to get traction in those days.
I’ve gotten a number of questions about food lately…it seems my message about sugar and high fructose corn syrup is getting through, and one of my readers asks:
“My pasta sauce has fructose, and high fructose corn syrup in it. Should I ditch it?”
In my opinion, yes.
It doesn’t need to be there.
Now according to my chef friend, you can make a marinara sauce easily, and you can control the sugar. A touch of sugar is sometimes added to marinara, or other tomato sauces, to balance acidity. There is nothing wrong with this at all, the same thing is done is Chinese cooking, too.
But the operant phrase is “a touch.” They aren’t adding sugar to make something sweet, which the food manufacturers definitely are. They are just balancing ingredients, and sometimes no sugar is needed at all, and other times very little.
There is a very famous Italian restaurant in the Bronx called Rao’s. It is very small, and if you don’t know somebody really important, you’re not getting in. It could take a year, or more, to get a reservation, if you’re lucky enough to get one at all. The restaurant has a cookbook, including a number of their famous sauces.
I’ve tried about five of them, and they are pretty darn good. The marinara takes about 45 minutes, if you’re plodding, and I don’t think I’ve ever had to add any sugar.
Here are some of the names for sugar in the ingredient labels of grocery foods:
Fructose, sucrose, corn syrup, date sugar, dextrose, brown sugar, white grape juice, turbinado, lactose, maltodextrose, invert sugar, honey, maltose, glucose, galactose, fruit juice concentrate, molasses, black strap molasses, maple syrup, succanat, and of course, high fructose corn syrup.
This is why Americans are consuming 160 pounds of sugar per year, per person. The food manufacturers sneak in sugar wherever they can, and you almost cannot buy a packaged food product that does not have at least one of these ingredients.
Is it any wonder that diabetes is now an epidemic? And yet, we spend a riduculous amount of time dealing with swine flu, which will go away as fast as it came. When that foolishness is over, we’ll still have 40 million diabetics, in this country alone.
The human body was never designed for such high sugar consumption, and sugar in all its forms is wreaking havoc on the health of the public. If people eliminated sugar from their diet, we could save billions in health care costs, but I’m betting Obama has a sweet tooth, along with his smoking habit.
Apparently, he hasn’t gotten the news about cigarettes, yet.
And if he hasn’t gotten that message, he surely doesn’t know about my pharmaceutical grade fish oil, or high delivery CoQ10, both of which can do wondrous things for your health.
One of my friends has gone through some pretty tough sledding, with regard to his heart. He’s having another procedure soon, maybe in the next ten days. One thing he told me was this, “In spite of all the problems, procedures, and pain, doctors are amazed that there is no damage to the heart itself, which remains very strong.”
He attributes that to my Powerhouse Omega Formula, and my Heart Charging Formula, which he’s been taking for some time. He was one of the original beta testers for the products.
That’s important, because doctors had him on a number of drugs, all of which deplete the heart, while supposedly helping it. Both formulas insure that his heart is getting the nutrients that it needs.

I thought I would start out today by posing a question:
What is the most effective natural cure on earth?
Could it be broccoli? Or perhaps spinach?
A good number of people would say it’s green tea.
Practitioners of Chinese Medicine might refer you to the Cordyceps mushroom, or Rhodiola Rosea Root Extract.
Holistic medicine practitioners might say it’s a berry, or a combination of berries of different colors.
All of those things are good for you, but they are not the most natural cure on earth.
The most natural cure on earth is: FAT!
Dr. Jonny Bowden, author of “The Most Effective Natural Cures On Earth” says:
“If there was one supplement I could mandate for the entire population of the world, it would unquestionably be omega-3′s. Fish oil has been shown in research to reduce blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels, the two most important risk factors for heart disease.”
Even the ultra-conservative and way behind the times American Heart Association recommends 2-4 grams of omega-3 fats per day.
Fatty acids and omega-3′s have been shown to reduce inflammation, (which is the root cause of many diseases), including Alzheimer’s and diabetes. Omega-3s have a profound effect on the brain, and have been studied in relation to depression, bi-polar disorder, and attention deficit disorder (ADD).
In addition, fat has been shown to prevent degenerative eye disease.
Over the past four decades, fat has been given a bum rap. Dieticians, nutritionists, medical researchers, doctors and other medical specialists got it wrong. They bad rapped beef in particular, pork, and forced producers to produce leaner products, all of which don’t taste like the real deal–because they aren’t.
What we know know for certain is that to eat healthy means getting enough fat.
One of the ways you can do that is by taking my Powerhouse Omega Formula, which contains all the fats your body needs. With the highest EPA/DHA levels in the industry, my formula doesn’t take a back seat to anybody, and I designed it that way.
Gary Taube, a scientific journalist, says that decreasing, or eliminating meat in the diet…and adding carbohydrates to replace it, can actually increase the level of triglycerides and reduce the number of high density lipoproteins…the good cholesterol in the body.
The consequence of this is that it may increase one’s risk of heart disease.

No sooner than I had written a story about government “care” than a reader sent me the following story, written by Kimberly Hefling and Ben Evans, of Associated Press.
“Fewer than half of Veterans Affairs centers given a surprise inspection last month had proper training and guidelines in place for common endoscopic procedures, such as colonoscopies…even after the agency learned that mistakes may have exposed thousands of veterans to HIV and other diseases.
The findings, from the VA’s Inspector General and obtained by Associated Press, suggest that errors in colonoscopies and other minimally invasive procedures, performed at VA facilities, “may be more widespread than initially thought.”
What?
If this was a private hospital, the outcry would be deafening. The lawsuits would already be stacked ten feet high. Insurance premiums for those doctors would rise like a hot air balloon. You would already be hearing the stentorian tones of network television announcers asking why and how such a tragedy could happen.
But there is no outcry, because the defendant is the government, and as everyone knows, even when the government makes a mistake, and in this case a HUGE mistake, “NOTHING” is the most likely outcome.
“The VA’s response was that there was no way to tell whether the infections suffered by veterans came from VA procedures. Their experts said that most, or all, of the infections probably already existed. Six veterans had HIV, thirty four had hepatitis C and thirteen had hepatitis B.
All from one hospital?
For all those out there that think the government can run healthcare, think again. The present system, no matter its flaws, has checks and balances. The government has no checks and balances, and zero accountability. There is no report of anyone losing their job in this entire scandal. Not only that, but there is no plan in place to make sure this doesn’t happen again, and if bureaucrats draft one, there will be enough holes for them to weasel out of any situation that gets sticky.
The best thing you can do for yourself and your family is to practice preventative medicine, and to make sure that you don’t have to go into the system, because you are in excellent health.
One of the ways you can do that is by taking my Powerhouse Omega Formula, an ultra pure, deep water, third party assayed, pharmaceutical grade fish oil. Third party assay means it isn’t just me making those claims. An independent third party has found that the claims I make are true, with regard to the makeup of the formula. In other words, when I say my Powerhouse Omega Formula is ultra pure, they back me up and certify that’s true.
See if you can get that guarantee at Costco, your local drug store, or the local healthfood store. You can’t, because those cheaper products just don’t measure up.
One customer wrote and told me that he absolutely hated fish, and wouldn’t take fish oil because of “fish burps.” I guaranteed him he wouldn’t have that problem, because of our enteric coating, which sends the capsules all the way to the intestines before dissolving. He told me just the other day, after taking the fish oil for two months, “You were right, doc–No fish burps.”
Preventive care is the future of medicine, and at Dr. Bill’s Favorite Formulas, we hope to be at the forefront.

A report crossed my desk this morning from some professors at Purdue that backs up something I heard on PBS about a month ago, and had forgotten about. I wanted to write about it then, but something else came up and was committed to paper instead.
What the two gents from Purdue found was that artificial sweeteners, (Aspartame, Splenda, Sweet and Low, and others), block your body’s defense system against obesity. The more artificial sweetener you consume, the fatter you’ll get.
In diet soft dranks, you get a triple whammy.
You have the artificial sweetener, the high fructose corn syrup, and caffeine. All three of these ingredients play havoc with your body’s defense system, and I’m not even going to go into the rest of the junk in the bottle, can, or dispenser.
The issue, according to the esteemed professors at Purdue is “mouth feel.” In other words, your body’s computer is programmed to sense that enough calories are being consumed, and it’s time to stop eating. It does this by “mouth feel”, or how the calories feel to the sensors in the mouth that communicate with the stomach and the brain.
Artificial sweeteners were designed to bypass these sensors.
Hence, it’s no surprise that fat people keep on eating and eating.
It isn’t just soft drinks, but almost all diet food. “No fat” and “low fat” are red flag items too, because they replace fat with sugar.
A colleague of mine lost 40 pounds by cutting 2 items out of his diet: Diet Coke, and low fat ice cream. He used to drink Diet Coke by the half gallon, and took his ice cream the same way. His waist shrank from 46 to 38, when he quit them both.
He told me that previously, he was always hungry, and he would even get up during the night to eat. Now, he is constantly surprised by how little he has to eat to get full. It’s because his body is now functioning like it should.
In addition, he’s taking the Powerhouse Omega Formula, and he’s told me he’s going to order my new products, as soon as they are released (very soon).
Not only that, he’s thinking about playing tennis again, after an 11 year layoff. I cautioned him to start that very slowly, giving those muscles a chance to gradually get used to playing again. No matter how good an athlete you used to be…if you have taken a long layoff…start s-l-o-w-l-y. Roger Federer has plenty of competition.

I spent the weekend talking to a number of my friends all of whom are fellow physicians, and you might be interested in the number one topic of discussion. Would you care to hazzard a guess?
It wasn’t the housing market, although that’s a concern.
It wasn’t their investments, although that’s a concern, too.
It wasn’t the rising cost of college tuition, or whether they could find qualified people for their offices.
It wasn’t their golf scores, or vacation time, or what fabulous deal they got on anything you could name.
Their number one concern was: How can I get out of practicing medicine, before the government has its long fingers in every single thing we do?
My fellow physicians see a disaster ahead, much worse than the Titanic. They don’t want to be part of it. They don’t want some idiot bureaucrat telling them how to do their job, and making rules and regulations that don’t make any sense, whatsoever.
The youngest physician of the group is a brilliant young man, who spent years working at the VA Hospital in Boston. The Government is in charge of all Veterans Hospitals across the country, such as Walter Reed in Washington, where wounded and maimed war heroes were being kept in filthy, squalid conditions, much like a third world country, and the government was going out of its way to cover this up.
Physicians, and staff there were routinely threatened by administrators and bureaucrats about telling this story, and the news finally leaked out, and ended some (not all) of the practices. The government is now closing the entire hospital and is stonewalling a Washington Post follow up investigation.
This young doctor told many absolute horror stories about the regulations, all covered in a 2000 page manual that often gave contradictory information on what to do in many situations. Physicians with little experience often were denied options for patients, all based on who was reading the manual. If you didn’t know how to point out the contradictions, or even know they existed, you were in trouble. And the problem was, they were often mislabeled, or even in the wrong section of the manual.
For anybody who has put in any time with the government, they have a saying that should send shivers down your spine. The saying is: “Good enough for who it’s for.”
Translated…that means any sloppy ass job will do, as long as it sorta meets the specs in the manual. That what Obamedicine means, no matter what kind of happy talk the President engages in. My grandmother used to say: “You can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear,” and that explains the President’s health care proposal.
And remember, The President, and all Members of Congress will be exempt from that health plan, just as they exempt themselves from every other rule that others must follow.
That’s why physicians, young, middle aged, and old, want OUT, and in a bad way. When I told them about what I was doing, (Dr. Bill’s Favorite Formulas), their eyes lit up, and they had all kinds of questions about how they could get involved.
Well…pretty soon we’ll be ready to let some highly motivated people in on the ground floor of a company that we hope will become a household name in the future.
We’re almost ready to cross the teeze and dot the eyes on our third and fourth product, and the fifth should be ready, very soon thereafter.
It all started with my ultra pure pharmaceutical grade fish oil, the Powerhouse Omega Formula, and that was followed by my one-of-a-kind CoQ10, the Heart Charging Formula.

This is an exciting time to be in business. It’s almost a David and Goliath struggle, and one of these days, I might even get paid.
This is the kind of struggle that built this great country. Three men started last year pouring their heart and soul into building what we hope to be the best health business in the country. We poured in our money, our time, and all our efforts into launching a company in the worst economic climate you can imagine.
And thanks to you…we’re starting to see that little light at the end of the tunnel.
Thank you for your continuing support.
I’ll be back tomorrow with more.
With my best wishes for your optimum health,
Dr. Bill

There’s an ancient Chinese proverb that goes “a journey of 1000 miles begins with but a single step.”
And that’s true. But, Grasshopper, if you ever want to kick your metabolism up a notch to lose weight, enhance your cardiac output, stabilize your blood lipids, improve lower limb circulation and increase your lung capacity, most experts agree that 10,000 steps a day is a good target level for effective walking.
Depending on your individual stride length, that’s probably the equivalent of five miles (if you’re an average sized person).
All you need is a pair of good supportive shoes or sneakers and a safe place to walk. And guess what?
EVERYTHING COUNTS!
All day long, sun-up to sun-down. All those extra steps throughout the day aren’t wasted. They all go toward your total.
But how do you know how many steps you’ve taken? Easy. You don’t have to go around counting to yourself. Just get a pedometer and wear it on your belt, as soon as you get up in the morning. That will keep track for you.
And what if 10,000 steps is too much for you? Just start with what you’re comfortable doing. Maybe that’s only a 100 steps after dinner. But, something is better than nothing and everyone has to start somewhere.
Just try to add a few more steps every time you walk and sooner than you think, you’ll be hitting that 10,000 step goal, every day.
And while you’re doing all that walking, be sure to fortify yourself with my ultra pure, deep water enteric coated phramaceutical grade fish oil, DR. BILL’S POWERHOUSE OMEGA FORMULA

Over the weekend, I’ve been reading some very interesting books and studies about the effect of omega 3 fats on the brain. Now reading academic journals can be tough, but the way this latest information was laid out was very clear and concise.
In Dr. Mark Hyman’s book, “The UltraMind Solution,” he states:
“Our brains don’t work without omega-3 fats. Period.”
Dr. Hyman links low levels of omega-3 fats to depression and anxiety, bipolar disease, attention deficit disorder, autism, learning disabilities, dementia, Alzheimer’s, a laundry list of mental illnesses, and of course, cancer and heart disease.
His opinion is seconded by Dr. Joseph Hibbeln at the National Institutes of Health.
Dr. Hyman says there are 4 key roles played by Omega-3 fats, which you can get in my Dr. Bill’s Powerhouse Omega Formula:
1) They build all cell membranes
2) They reduce inflammation, which has been linked to almost all brain problems.
3) They balance blood sugar, which is essential for keeping your brain healthy.
4) They increase the activity of a key molecule in your brain called BDNF (brain derived neurotropic factor) which acts like fertilizer for your brain, stimulating new cell growth, and increased cell connections.
In case you didn’t know it, you CAN grow new brain cells.
But if your body is low on, or has no omega-3 fats, that won’t happen.
Just taking a daily dose of my Powerhouse Omega Formula, which you can get at:
https://www.favoriteformulas.com
It will help your brain grow, improve connections, make mood chemicals work better, reduce inflammation, and improve the function of every cell in your body, by giving them the fats they need to build smooth, fluid membranes that communicate information easily.
All that, in four enteric coated soft gels a day.

It’s another dreary day here in Long Island, with the rain falling intermittently, and occasional thunder and lightning. One thing I have noticed is how green everything is at the moment. Some years here, there hasn’t been nearly this much rain, and the heat started turning things brown early. I don’t think there’s a chance of that happening this year.
In this day and age, you wouldn’t think I would get this question, but I do, and it’s a little frightening. The question is:
What if I have never exercised before?
If you have never worked out before, know little about exercise, or have become extremely de-conditioned over the years, I suggest you start slowly…and gradually build up your exercise program over time as your endurance, strength, recovery and comfort levels improve. Here are a few easy to follow suggestions, to get you started. These things will get you going, regardless of how out of shape you perceive yourself to be.
Walk more.
A good way to get your body moving is to make an effort to walk more. That might include something as simple as parking your car farther away from your destination, when you run errands, or go the supermarket. Once you feel ready, begin taking longer walks, of ten to fifteen minutes. Build up your time gradually, as your endurance increases. You can walk on a treadmill at the gym, a track at your local school, outside in a beautiful setting, at your local mall, or even in a large warehouse store, like Costco (when it rains).
Foocus on your posture.
Like drinking enough water, correct posture is one of those magical tools that promotes weight loss. Most of us spend a great deal of time at a desk, or in front of a computer all day. When sitting, always keep your legs uncrossed, feet flat on the floor, shoulders back, and head in an upright position. When you sit in this stable position while working, you will actually burn more calories.
Learn to breathe.
Don’t sit hunched over at your desk, or in front of the television set. Sit upright, so that you can take good, deep, consistent breaths, filling up your chest cavity. Make sure you breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth.
Moving oxygen in and out of your system, with proper breathing, will improve your utilization of calories, helping you create a more efficient metabolism.
Keep a record of your daily activities, and give yourself credit for everything that you accomplish. You don’t have to exercise every day, but I’ve found that once people really get started, they actually want to.
In addition, make sure you are taking my Powerhouse Omega Formula, the enteric coated, ultra pure, deep water, pharmaceutical grade fish oil, which will only magnify the benefits you get from exercise.

Yesterday, I told you that my recommendation would be to stop drinking coffee, so today I’m going to continue being a killjoy, and give you another recommendation, which is to stop drinking soda/cola/pop, or whatever it’s being called these days. Where I grew up it was called soda, mid-westerners call it pop, and southerners, cola. Whatever it’s called, it isn’t good for you.
The media has often referred to the cola wars. What they want to talk about is the marketing rivalry between Coca Cola and Pepsi. It makes for interesting reading (if you’re a marketer or businessman) but the real cola war is the one that these things do to damage your health.
Let me put it to you this way:
Cola beverages have absolutely zero nutritional value. None, nada, zip, zilch.
What your body needs is pure clean water, and that hasn’t changed since the dawn of mankind.
But what tens of millions of people do is reach for a can, or bottle of soda, or even worse, diet soda, instead. Instead of pure clean water, they are ingesting an artificially colored, chemically flavored mixture of carbonated water, phosphoric acid, sweeteners (including the absolutely horrible high fructose corn syrup), preservatives, and caffeine.
If it’s a regular cola, it contains at least 9 teaspoons of sugar. In response, your blood glucose levels rise quickly, and your pancreas pours out insulin.
Yesterday, I talked about the size of a cup of coffee. With colas, it’s even crazier. A normal convenience store size is 32 ounces, and they go all the way to 64 ounces. The 44 ounce cola is the most popular size. That amounts to 3 and a half cans of cola, and 32 teaspoons of sugar at a time, which is beyond what your body is designed to deal with.
If you want to lose some weight fast, stop drinking soda. I know many people who have dropped 10-15 pounds in a month, just by doing this one thing.
Diet cola is even worse.
What happens here, is that your brain registers the intense sweetness of the artificial sweetener, and instructs the intestinal tract to prepare for an enormous intake of calories. Your body creates enzymes to convert future calories to fat, just as it always has. So even though the beverage has only one calorie…you remain primed to create fat, as soon as you consume some real food. The more artificial sweeteners you consume…the more likely you are to gain weight.
By the way, neither your brain, or your body, recognize the concept of one calorie.
And in addition, colas are also a very significant caffeine delivery system, just like coffee.
This is one of the reasons that supplementation is so important in todays world. All these fake foods are depleting our bodies of what they really need to function. That’s what keeps me up late at night, and why I’m working on new formulas, all the time. I’ve got three more products coming down the pike, and they should be ready to go by the end of June.
Meanwhile, make sure you order my Dr. Bill’s Powerhouse Omega Formula. It’s the foundation product that everything is built on.
And give my Heart Charging Formula a try too. All my work, so far, has been directed toward the heart, and the three new products will complete that phase of this venture. Then, it’s on to other parts of the body, and other problems.

Today, I thought I’d talk a bit about something Americans hold near and dear, and it isn’t Obama, death, or taxes. I thought I’d write about this because of something someone told me yesterday, about someone I know pretty well, who is having a bit of a rough time communicating with his staff, particularly as it gets later in the day.
His top staff people are ready to bail on him, because he’s an addict, and he doesn’t realize it. His addiction makes him jittery, irritable, forgetful, profane, and tempermental, just to throw a few adjectives out there. His problem isn’t alcohol, pain killers, or cocaine.
If you asked 99 out of 100 people they would tell you it isn’t a drug, but it IS.
What I’m talking about is caffeine, most readily available at almost every corner in the country. If you drink a great deal of coffee, the chances are pretty good that you could be a caffeine addict yourself, and that’s not a good thing.
When coffee first entered the culture, it was served in 6 ounce cups, and that was considered a “cup of coffee.” People had a “cup of coffee,” or two. Medical people had more than that, but the problem began a decade or two back, when the sizes of portions really started to explode.
Now, in most 7/11′s, for instance, the smallest cup for coffee is 16 ounces, which amounts to 2 and 2/3 cups of coffee, and the “normal” size is 20-22 ounces, which is roughly 3 and a 1/2 cups.
That volume corresponds to about 350 mg of caffeine. If you stopped there, you would minimize the damage, but the problem is that millions of people have more than one 22 ounce serving, which means that we are now talking about ingesting 700 mg of caffeine, just from coffee. That isn’t good, and at that level, you risk heart disease, stroke, pyschological disorders, and many types of gastrointestinal disease.
That isn’t the end of the list, by a long shot.
There’s also fatigue, depression, muscle tension in your neck, shoulders, jaw, hands, legs, insomnia, bruxism (grinding your teeth), anxiety and…the list could go on, ad infinitum.
This is definitely not stuff they want to hear at Starbucks, or Seattle’s Roast, or 7/11.
But it’s true, and it happens every day.
The gentlemen I was talking about at the start of this post is never seen without a large coffee in tow. He’s an addict, and he may need medical help to detoxify him. Hopefully, that can be done before his whole office walks away, but sometimes, interventions aren’t successful.
Green tea is a much better alternative, and you don’t need it in a 32 ounce container.
Many people who are caffeine addicts go to the doctor, presenting all these problems I listed, but they don’t tell the doctor about their coffee consumption, or exactly how much coffee they are sucking down their gullets. Then, they end up getting drugs for what ails them, and combine them with the caffeine. This only serves to make their problems worse.
If you’re going to drink coffee, keep the amount reasonable, and drink a good amount of water. And make sure you take some of my Dr. Bill’s Powerhouse Omega Formula, to make sure that you are getting all the omega-3 fatty acids you need, which will help to keep you balanced.
My best advice would be to quit drinking anything with caffeine in it. I did. It IS a drug, and a powerful one, at that. It has a bigger downside than most people realize, in spite of all the good publicity it gets.
